‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect arrested after deadly Pueblo shooting

UPDATE 5/4: Pueblo police wrote on Twitter early Tuesday that the suspect wanted in connection to Sunday's deadly shooting had been arrested.

The department said Kevin Woodard, 28, was safely taken into custody by Arapahoe County sheriff's deputies Monday night. The arrest came shortly after Pueblo police announced he was last seen driving a 2012 white Toyota Tacoma.

According to authorities, Woodard fled to Fremont County after the fatal shooting in Pueblo, and the 28-year old suspect was involved in yet another shooting in Florence Monday morning. The victim in that shooting survived according to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

According to court records obtained by 13 Investigates, a warrant was filed in Fremont County for Kevin Woodard's arrest on April 27th. Woodard faced felony level drug and illegal firearm charges.

13 Investigates also discovered that Woodard faced assault charges stemming from incidents back in 2016 and 2019. According court records, Woodard attacked a disabled juvenile in the city of Florence back in March of 2016. After violating his probation, Woodard was sentenced to 15 months in the Department of Corrections. Then in 2019, Woodard severely beat a fellow inmate inside the Fremont County Jail. Woodard plead guilty and was sentenced to a year in jail.

ORIGINAL: Pueblo police have identified the suspect who's wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that happened early Sunday morning.

According to an update from the Pueblo Police Department, 28-year-old Kevin Woodard has a warrant for his arrest for first-degree murder. Woodard was identified Monday after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Berkley Ave.

The victim was identified by the Pueblo County Coroner Monday as Jason Robert Carroll.

Pueblo Police say that Woodard should be considered "armed and dangerous." If you see him, you're urged to not approach him or try to apprehend him. Police say if you see Woodard, call the nearest local law enforcement agency or dial 911.

Woodard is described as 6'2" and about 230 pounds with brown eyes and balding hair. He also has tattoos above his eyebrows.

PPD also identified a woman who may be with Woodard, but it's not clear if she's wanted in connection with any crime. The woman was identified as 30-year-old Samantha Shields.

The victim in the shooting hasn't been identified yet as of Monday morning.
