Pueblo police arrest man for burglary after trashing downtown hotel

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police have arrested and charged a Pueblo man after the individual allegedly damaged property at the Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel in downtown Pueblo, tried to steal food, and assaulted an employee with a horseshoe.
Luben Ahrens, 24, was arrested on a first-degree burglary charge early Thursday morning.
According to a post on the Pueblo Police Department Facebook page, officers responded a downtown hotel around 4:35 am. Police say Ahrens entered the hotel and attempted to take some food laying around in the hotel.
Staff told Ahrens he would have to pay for the snacks, however, the suspect had no intention of paying.
Police say Ahrens took out a horseshoe and swung it at one of the staff members of the hotel. Ahrens then threw a piece of rebar at the employee. Police say the suspect then began to flee into the hotel.
According to the PPD Facebook post, Ahrens pulled a fire alarm, damaged property in the kitchen, and even attempted to microwave a fire extinguisher.
Other officers arrived on scene to help subdue Ahrens after he broke a glass door.
The Facebook post says Ahrens faces other charges besides the first degree burglary, but it's unclear what those charges may be. The post continues to say the employee hit by the horseshoe came away with minor injuries.
