Wildlife officers find body of teen hunter who went missing from Buena Vista
CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife says divers recovered the body of a teen hunter who went missing over the weekend at Clear Creek Reservoir.
Around 5 p.m. Saturday, crews responded to reports that a teen had gone missing after his canoe capsized while duck hunting with a friend.
The father one of the boys arrived around the same time as CPW officers and swam out toward the boat. He was able to grab one of the boys, but he struggled to get back to shore in the 33-degree water and swimming against 20 mph winds. Officers entered the water to save both the man and teenager.
The other teenager was reported missing and a two-day search ensued. Divers from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team recovered the body Monday.
“We offer our condolences to the family of this young man,” said Jim Aragon, CPW Area Wildlife Manager for the region. “We hate seeing a life lost so tragically. This was a terrible accident.”
The remains were turned over to the Chaffee County Coroner's office. The coroner will identify the cause of death and make a formal identification of the victim.
