Serious crash closes east and westbound lanes on Fillmore Street; among several crashes Wednesday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A serious crash Wednesday afternoon closed the east and westbound lanes on Fillmore Street in Colorado Springs.
Police say the lanes between Mark Dabling Blvd and Beacon Street were closed around 5:10 p.m. due to a crash investigation. Drivers should find an alternate route.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
There were three other serious crashes Wednesday.
At around 7:30 p.m., a pickup truck and an SUV collided at the intersection of Platte Avenue and Union Boulevard.
Police said no one was hurt but eastbound Platte was closed at the intersection for the accident investigation. The cause of the crash was unclear.
"Sometimes for a few days after the (Daylight Saving) time change, we see more crashes," said an officer at the scene.
At around noon, a multi-vehicle accident briefly closed southbound Interstate 25 at the Circle Drive/Lake Avenue exit.
The crash involved a cement truck, a car and a truck that appeared to be hauling drinks and snacks.
A Colorado Springs police officer at the scene said the driver of the cement truck was unable to stop in time to avoid a traffic jam. The congestion may have been caused by a paving project happening farther south near the South Academy Boulevard exit.
The officer said no one was hurt, but the cement truck and the car were towed from the scene. Traffic was eventually allowed to pass through in one lane while debris, and spilled drinks and snacks, were cleaned up.
The accident caused traffic to back up past the MLK bypass exit.
At around 9 a.m., two vehicles and a bicycle were reportedly involved in a crash at the intersection of Nevada Avenue and Las Vegas Street. No details were available later Wednesday.
