Motorcyclist dies from injuries after accident in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department says a man died Thursday after sustaining severe injuries from an accident on August 19.
Around 6:30 p.m. on August 19, two CSPD officers witnessed a motorcyclist traveling at excessive speed westbound on the 000 block of East Las Vegas Street. The driver failed to negotiate a right curve onto Sierra Madre Street and drove off the left side of the road, getting thrown off the vehicle.
Officers provided first aid to the motorcyclist, who was eventually taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.
CSPD says 40-year-old John Smith passed away from his injuries Thursday. He is the 30th traffic fatality of the city and the 9th motorcyclist to die this year. At this time last year, there were 30 traffic fatalities in the city.
