Will decline in COVID-19 cases impact El Paso County restrictions?

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The state of Colorado has improved in the number of coronavirus cases being transmitted, so does that mean occupancy restrictions in El Paso County may soon be eased?

El Paso County health officials have reported two weeks of declining COVID-19 cases. The data is something health officials and county leaders continue to evaluate as they figure out what restrictions remain in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

It was about two weeks ago that El Paso County limited indoor occupancy at venues and restaurants in an attempt to slow the spread.

The COVID-19 infection rate in El Paso County dropped by nearly 43 cases per 100,000 people in the last two weeks, according to county data. The rate went from nearly 158 cases per 100,000 people from late July to about 115 cases per 100,000 this week.

This is in addition to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment noting Monday that the state has had its lowest 3-day average positive rate since numbers started being tracked in March.

KRDO is asking both county leaders and health officials how the decline may shape future decisions about loosening COVID-19 restrictions in El Paso County.
