San Francisco bus driver hit with bat over mask requirement

Navy Medicine

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Police say a San Francisco bus driver was beaten with a bat by a passenger who refused to wear a face mask.

Authorities say the driver was attacked Wednesday after three unmasked young men got on a public bus and refused repeated requests to put on face coverings. A city health order requires masks to be worn on public transport, an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Police say that the driver stopped the bus to escort them off. Police say that's when one man pulled a wooden bat and struck the driver several times. The injuries aren't life-threatening and the driver is expected to recover. No arrests have been made.
