The total amount of cuts announced is about 16,000 positions. The cuts are expected to impact Boeing's commercial airplane unit the most at about a 15% reduction in employees.
Boeing released provided this statement to KRDO when asked about the impact in Colorado Springs:
"We have begun taking action to lower our number of employees by roughly 10 percent in total for the enterprise through a combination of voluntary layoffs, natural turnover and involuntary layoffs as necessary."
"We'll have to make even deeper reductions in areas that are most exposed to the condition of our commercial customers including our Commercial Airplanes division, our commercial services businesses, and our corporate functions. At the same time, the ongoing stability of our defense, space and related services businesses will help us limit the overall depth of the cut."
It's not yet clear how much of the impact this will have on Boeing's labor force in Colorado Springs.
