AdAmAn club begins hike for New Year’s Eve fireworks
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- If you know where to look, you might be able to spot the large group of hikers traversing up the side of America's Mountain over the next two days.
The AdAmAn Club kicked off its New Year's Eve climb on Monday morning. The group has held the tradition of climbing Pikes Peak since 1922 as an annual mission to shoot New Year’s Eve fireworks atop the 14,115-foot summit.
This year's climb is the group's 98th, and it has been dedicated to Ted Lindeman, who expects to make his 50th ascent up the Barr Trail. Lindeman says he began his journey in the club as a guest “snowplow” in 1967 and believes his record won't be easily reached, if ever.
Keeping with tradition, the climb will be lead by its newest member. This year, that's Tyler Stuart.
Stuart has hiked up with the AdAmAn Club eight times as a guest and has even attended the annual breakfast send-off since he was about 4 years old.
At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, the group will fire their fireworks display. The group says that depending on weather, the fireworks can be seen for hundreds of miles along the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies and eastern plains.
