Peterson AFB east gate reopened after security incident
The east gate at Peterson Air Force Base was closed Thursday evening due to a tip of possible explosives but has now been reopened, according to the base. No explosives were found.
The base says an anonymous tip was called into security forces about a possible explosive substance around 4:45 p.m., and a K-9 unit gave a positive indication in the area near the east gate. No explosives have been found at this time, but the 21st Mission Support EOD team was called in to investigate.
A 500-foot radius has been sectioned off near Marksheffel Road and the gate. The base said at 6:40 p.m. that the north and east gates were reopened for outbound traffic.
The gate will be closed while the investigation is ongoing.
East Gate Closed: Due to an ongoing incident, the East Gate has been closed. A follow-up message will be sent once gates are reopened.
