Florida man arrested in drug bust in Colorado Springs

A Florida man has been arrested in Colorado and is accused of attempting to traffic marijuana, according to Colorado Springs police.

Manuel Menendez, 27, was arrested around 11 p.m., Monday after police received two anonymous tips about his identity and location. Officers said they found him at a Rodeway Inn, in the 500 block of N. Murray Boulevard.

A K-9 team was called in to inspect a vehicle that was believed to be owned by Menendez. A K9 Officer and his partner got a positive hit on the vehicle and discovered 14.5 pounds of marijuana, 3 grams of cocaine and $28,000 in cash, authorities said.

Investigators found Menendez in his room. Police said he was intoxicated and armed with a handgun when they found him.

He was arrested for prohibited use of a weapon.

Investigators believe that Menendez intended to take the drugs back to Florida.
