Sheriff’s Office Warns of Scam

There’s a new scam circulating El Paso County, and the Sheriff’s Office wants you to know about it.

It goes something like this: your phone rings, and the caller says they are a deputy from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect then tells you about an active warrant for your arrest, and the only way to clear your name is to send a money card to the Sheriff’s Office – only after reading the money card digits to the caller.

EPSO reminds citizens the only way to clear your name from a warrant is to turn yourself into the Criminal Justice Center, with proper identification.

If you do receive this type of phone call, you’re asked to report it to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
