Free disposal of hazardous waste Friday in Black Forest
Black Forest residents will have an opportunity to get rid of residential household hazardous waste during a special collection event Friday, August 9.
Starting at 7:30 Friday morning, people can drop off unwanted items to the Black Forest Section 16 Trailhead, 8510 Burgess Road, just west of Vollmer Road.
The items being accepted include:
Paint and paint-related products (stains, strippers, thinners, varnishes, etc.)
Compressed gas cylinders (1 lb and 20 lb propane and butane)
Household chemicals (aerosols, ammonia, bleach, cleaners, lamp oil, etc.)
Lawn and garden chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides, poisons, plant food, etc.)
Automotive chemicals (waxes, motor oil, antifreeze, bug/tar/chrome/vinyl/cleaning products, engine cleaners, brake and transmission fluids, etc.)
Electronics (computers, printers, scanners, TVs of all sizes, cell phones, audio/video equipment, digital camera, camcorders, fax machines, etc.)
All types of batteries- lead acid vehicle batteries and all types of household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9-volt, watch and hearing aid batteries)
Metals- including refrigerators and freezers
Medicines and medical sharps (hypodermic needles, lancets, etc.) from people or animals
No controlled substances will be accepted. Package items as follows:
Mix loose pills together in a clear, resealable bag.
Put other medicines (liquids, patches, ointments, inhalers) in a clear, resealable bag after removing any prescription drug or personal information.
Place sharps in either a sharps container from a pharmacy or an empty, clean liquid laundry soap bottle with a narrow neck and a screw lid.
