What does a recall cost?

Pueblo County Commissioners learned the “how much” if a partisan recall election happens for State Senator Angela Giron. Clerk and Recorder Gilbert Ortiz says it’ll be about 250 thousand dollars that was not planned for and would probably have to come out of the county’s general fund.

He told Commissioners during a work session on Monday about the costs, “Commissioners had questions about the recall. How much it would cost and Pueblo County’s responsibilities with this type of partisan recall election.”

Ortiz has been in office for seven years. He is in his second term of office. He told me, when it comes to elections, “I’ve done recalls for special districts, recalls in Pueblo West, District 60 and in Colorado City. So I’ve run quite a few recall elections, but not a partisan recall election.”

Senator Giron’s critics have until June 10th to get more than 11 thousand recall petition signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office to be verified and get the ball rolling for a recall for the Pueblo Democrat.
