Local teacher wins low amateur at Colorado Open
DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colin Prater might end up being the new cool guy on Doherty's campus.
The former UCCS golfer won the low amateur competition at the Colorado Open. Prater (-12) lead wire to wire en route to the victory.
Prater teaches chemistry, biology, and anatomy at Doherty. He's also the girl's golf coach and the boy's JV basketball coach.
Perhaps this will elevate his standing.
"Yeah, it's awesome! It's awesome to represent Doherty," Prater said. "I won the Colorado match play last month. I got a lot of texts and calls from teachers and coaches and stuff at Doherty. Kids, I don't know. I would hope that they would think that I'm a little bit athletic. I don't know if I'll ever use it. Hey, I won Low-Am! But I'll definitely tell them about it."
For the tournament, Prater shot a 276, good for a one-stroke win.
