COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Atharva Vispute is a rising senior at Rampart high school. He’s also the president of an organization called "Sea of Actions". They're holding free online classes throughout the summer for kids of all ages to join and interact with each other. Think of it as a virtual summer camp.
“Those lessons will comprise of origami and the Rubiks cube, chess, and basic music lessons," Vispute says. "The goal at the end of the day is just to put a smile on people’s faces and give them something to do over the summer. It’s a really crazy time, and I just want to make it a little bit better for everybody.”
When it comes to solving a Rubiks cube, Atharva can solve one in less than 20 seconds. He says his brother is even faster. All the skills they're teaching are great things to learn.
“To be able to create origami, that’s a pretty cool skill. Just for people to be able to do that over the summer and learn something over the summer while there’s not a ton else going on, I think that’s really valuable," says Vispute.
They will also provide free summer tutoring.
The program will help bring kids in the city together. It's an opportunity for students to meet people within their community who they may not have otherwise met.
Vispute's goal is to eventually get every kid in Colorado Springs to join. This is all about helping people. It’s about making Colorado Springs, and the world, a better place.
“Our actions might be on a smaller scale," Vispute says. "But the impact we’re having on individual lives is huge. Our motto at Sea of Actions is literally, 'small actions, big impact.'”
