Absolutely Colorado: Colorado Springs Philharmonic visits local schools to prepare for upcoming concert

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A musician from the Colorado Springs Philharmonic stopped by Steele Elementary School to get the students ready for an upcoming performance.

More than 5,000 students and teachers will be attending performances at the end of the month. For a lot of students, it will be their first time seeing the fine arts, so they brought in instruments to explain what would happen on stage.

The Philharmonic is visiting 18 schools across the city to prepare the kids. It's the group's 100th year and they are focusing on building another generation of music lovers in southern Colorado.

"Bringing different instruments to schools and elementary kids, it's eye opening," Karl Heffernan said. "It's really amazing for these kids to see professional musicians playing instruments they've never even heard of and giving them that exposure."

The Philharmonic kids concert is called "Carnival of the Animals," and will be performed on October 27-28. More information can be found here.
