A Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School science teacher gets on his bike and is surprising his students with pop quizzes
When the coronavirus put the brakes on the school year Pat Nagle felt hollow, "When they left, I'm going that's the last time I'm ever going to see them and I wanted to end on a better note," says Pat Nagle, eight grade honor science teacher at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School."
So to end on a better note he came up with an idea, "It would have been easy throw out a bunch of work sheets and call it good," says Nagle. Instead of work sheets he's taking the classroom to his students, he hops on his bike and pops in for a pop quiz, "There like whoa what's this guy doing here?" says Nagle. Armed with a bullhorn and practicing social distancing he asks his students five questions, some more difficult than others, "I saw the mega-phone, I thought that would be really funny to stop by kids house and call their name and then give them a little pop quiz or something and say hi to them," says Nagle.
"He was like my favorite teacher. He was really nice, always fun. He made learning fun," says Paige Heck, Ace Eilmes added, "I miss like his teaching because he's funny and stuff." "For the most part these kids have really enjoyed it," says Nagle. That's apparent but Mr. Nagle's students admit there's a silver lining to not finishing the year in the classroom, "That's the one nice thing about this no finals," says Eilmes. There may be no finals but Mr. Nagle didn't want the finality of the school year to be in March, "This was sort of a way for me to say goodbye and to have a little fun with it," says Nagle.
