New $40 million open-air amphitheater coming to Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A new, state-of-the-art amphitheater is set to open in the next few years in Colorado Springs.
Notes Live, a hospitality and entertainment company, announced Wednesday plans to build an open-air amphitheater in the Polaris Pointe area in Colorado Springs called The Sunset, which would seat 8,000 people.
The project is backed with $40 million in financing and is slated to open in 2023.
The venue would be south of the new road that connects Interstate 25 to Voyager Pkwy, where a dirt field currently sits.
The developer of the project, J.W. Roth whose company Notes Live also owns the Boot Barn Hall at Bourbon Brothers on Polaris Pointe, says the vision for it came during the thick of the pandemic.
"I'm thinking to myself, you know, if we could build a big outdoor venue, maybe we would be able to open up sooner," Roth told KRDO Wednesday.
Pikes Peak will be positioned directly behind the stage and the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel should also be visible from the venue.
"There's not a prettier place in America than sitting across from the Air Force Academy at the base of America's Mountain watching a great show," Roth said.
Some have dubbed the venue, "Red Rocks South," and likened it to Fiddler's Green. Roth smiles at that notion but says those two venues are bucket list spots and his goal is not to compete with them.
"Nobody's ever going to replace Red Rocks. Red Rocks is a bucket list, iconic place. I want to build a bucket list, iconic place, but not to compete with that, but to be a complement to that."
Additionally, The Sunset will have amenities like 60 VIP luxury firepit suites, 4-5 star restaurants, and a top-shelf rooftop bar carrying over 150 of the rarest bourbons in the world.
Notes Live says the company identifies "entertainment deserts" and creates "premium concert experiences."
In addition to The Sunset, Notes Live is expected to open another venue modeled on the Boot Barn/Bourbon Brothers concept in Georgia.
