USAFA Class of 2027 get their bearings at Air Force Academy ‘I-Day’

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Air Force Academy Class of 2027 is officially on-base and starting basic training.

Wednesday morning, nearly 1,000 new cadets began their journey at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Over the next four years at the Academy, the cadets will undergo training and education before their eventual commission as U.S. Air Force Officers.

The new cadets began In-Processing Day - known as I-Day - by saying goodbye to their parents at the drop-off line. Then, they were greeted by the many friendly faces of the faculty at the Academy before undergoing things like health checks, gear checks, and other screenings.

Once the administrative tasks are complete, the new cadets board a bus and head off to meet their new upperclassmen instructors or the "cadre."

For the next six weeks, these young men and women will be basic cadets transitioning from civilian life to the military.

Once the school year starts they'll become one with their fellow cadets already at the Academy.
