Five people in hospital after shooting near Colorado Springs convenience store
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Five people were shot and are being treated at a local hospital after a confrontation behind an Alta Convenience store, off Palmer Park Boulevard and Potter Drive Tuesday night.
According to police, a fight broke out between two groups around 7:00 p.m. Police tell KRDO shots were fired by at least one person. The ground surrounding the Alta Convenience Store was riddled with dozens of evidence markers, many of which stretch all the way to a nearby apartment complex.
One eyewitness -- a veteran, whose only provided the name Logan -- is credited with likely saving the life of a female teen victim, by wrapping her leg with a tourniquet. He said he also wrapped a tourniquet around the arm of a second female victim.
Another witness told KRDO the shooting lasted for about two to three minutes. Once police arrived on scene, they found two victims with injuries on scene. Police say three others were taken by a friend in a car to a local hospital.
Police say there were about 20 different people on scene, many of whom scattered in multiple directions when the shots rang out. The majority of those on scene are believed to be in their teens or early 20's.
As of 10:30 P.M. Tuesday night, Colorado Springs Police have not made any arrests, but say they are actively working to resolve that. Police say it's also possible one or more of the injured victims could be facing charges as well.
