COLORADO (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) hopes to further health equity in the state through COVID-19 health equity and immunization grant funding opportunities.

Wednesday, the CDPHE announced the launch of the COVID-19 Health Equity and Immunization Fund.

The department said its goal with the fund is to "reach people where they work and live with COVID-19 resources, information, and support." The program aims to expand COVID prevention resources and services, increase COVID vaccination, ensure equitable distribution of COVID vaccines, and increase COVID vaccination capacity across the state.

According to the CDPHE, there are four program areas to support these funding goals.

The Community Engagement Program will fund projects/activities that use authentic community engagement practices to gather community input on population-specific resources and needs related to health equity and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Community Health Navigators Program will provide support for community health navigators to do vaccine outreach, patient education, and health system navigation.

The Healthy Communities Program will fund activities focused on community resilience related to the social determinants of health as they relate to COVID-19's impact on communities.

The Health Equity Immunization Events Program is to improve vaccine education, outreach, access, and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in communities.

The application period for the program will open on August 1, 2022. Applications will be accepted multiple times throughout the year until January 31, 2024. The CDPHE said applicants may apply to more than one program area and there are no set award amounts or award maximums.

More information about the program, including eligibility and application details, can be found on the CDPHE website.

Interested organizations are also encouraged to join an informational webinar about the program that will be held on Wednesday, July 27 from 10:30 a.m. through noon.
