Switchbacks FC Can’t Find Footing Against El Paso Locomotive FC
Colorado Springs, CO (July 9, 2022) – The Switchbacks FC found themselves a man down in the last fifteen minutes of play, and suffered their third straight loss against El Paso, with a final score of 1-0.
With their longest break between games - four days - in the last two weeks, the Switchbacks were looking to keep their pace up and earn a win against El Paso Locomotive. Both teams came out strong, with over eight shots occurring in just the first 17 minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Switchbacks, the first and only goal of the night would be scored by El Paso in the 18th minute, as a rebounding block from COS goalkeeper Christian Herrera would land on the foot of Eder Borelli, allowing for a cross in the box that would be headed in by Josue Gomez. Herrera would make five saves in only 38 minutes.
Hadji Barry would get a huge chance in the 32nd minute, after a cross from #23 Elvis Amoh leaves Barry a clear shot at goal, but unfortunately ELP goalie Newton would make a big save to keep the score 1-0 going into the second half.
The Switchbacks found some rhythm in the second half and were able to lift their possession up to 58%, and #6 Cam Lindley would continue to establish his position as a chance maker, making his 48th chance of the season, tieing him for first in most chances across the entire league. A confusing red card delivered to #5 Matt Mahoney after a two-footed tackle on Lindley by ELP goes unpunished would leave the Switchbacks down a man for the final twenty minutes of play. El Paso would earn a red card themselves in the last three minutes of regular time, and with both team down a man the score would remain unchanged.
The Switchbacks will be back at Weidner Field this Friday, July 15th as they take on LA Galaxy II for our Margaritaville Night.
