The School Buzz: Woodland Park HS counselor wins state award

Possibly the most influential person in a high school is the guidance counselor. Woodland Park High School appears to have a remarkable one.

Jennifer Johnston, who has been a counselor for over 15 years, recently won the 2021 Colorado Council on High School/College  Relations Award for her work with her students at Woodland Park High.

The award is given to the counselor who initiates a unique college prep program, has community involvement, builds relationships, and participates in high school activities; Johnston appears to have done all of that and more.

"I love my career; it is my passion and my identity," she said.

"I support students' academic achievement, social-emotional development, and plans for life after graduation. I am the full spirit of school counseling, committed to my community, and dedicated to students. I connect and challenge them to become the best versions of themselves."
