Deadly shooting occurs in Security-Widefield

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting in a home at the intersection of Main Street and Dahlia Drive in Security-Widefield.

Authorities said the shooting happened just before 2 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found an unidentified man dead in the home.

The area around the home remained blocked off late Saturday night while investigators searched the scene. Sgt. Greg White of the Sheriff’s Office said investigators are speaking with four adults who were inside the home at the time of the shooting. White also said the Sheriff’s Office was working on getting a search warrant to go into the home.

“We get the stories from everybody,” he said. “We get the crime scene searched and we basically try to match up the crime scene stories to see exactly what happened.”

White didn’t confirm a neighbor’s belief that the victim was shot while breaking into the home. The possibility made neighbors concerned.

“It scares me,” said Erin Bordelon, a neighbor. “I have three-year-old twins, so having something like this go down in the neighborhood is kind of scary. I just hope they figure out what went on and why he was shot.”

Neighbors said the owner of the home where the shooting happened is known as “Popeye,” and is a part-time mortician with an interest in UFOs. They say they hope he’s not the shooting victim.
