Former top enlisted Fort Carson soldier enters plea deal over alleged sexual misconduct
FORT CARSON, Colo. (KRDO) - A former top enlisted Fort Carson soldier entered a plea deal Tuesday during a court-martial at the Mountain Post over allegations of sexual misconduct.
Sergeant Major Benito A. Perez entered the plea deal early in the day, but the verdict wasn't reached until almost 2 a.m. Wednesday.
As part of the deal, Perez pleaded guilty to indecent language relating to sexually explicit messages he sent to a family member who was over the age of 18. He also pleaded guilty to fraternization for having an "unduly familiar" relationship with a Private First Class in his command.
Perez will spend 179 days in a military jail for the indecent communication charge and another 10 days for fraternization. He will also be demoted in rank.
