Suspect in custody after shots fired in north Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo police detained a suspect who reportedly fired multiple gunshots in the north side of the city Friday around noon.
Police identified the suspect as James Justice, 40. According to investigators, Justice was currently on bond for assault on peace officer charges at the time of this incident.
The incident happened around 12:15 p.m. near 4289 N. Elizabeth Street. Pueblo police had that section of N. Elizabeth Street closed down while officers worked on clearing the area.
Police say the first shots were fired after officers responded to a call near Motel 6 for reported menacing, but then the suspect ran away to the Pueblo Grande mobile home park nearby.
There, Justice exchanged gunfire with officers, resulting in him being shot in the thigh by an officer. According to emergency dispatchers, police were then able to take the suspect into custody at about 12:40 p.m.
Police confirmed to KRDO that he was reportedly in stable condition. NO officers were injuried during the shooting.
According to court records, Justice has a lengthy criminal history including several arrests for violent crimes and he was free on bail awaiting trial for an attempted murder charge connected to an incident last May.
We're working on getting more information about Justice's criminal history and new charges that he may face.
