Man accused of breaking through apartment walls, ceilings before fighting officers in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 30-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he broke through the walls and ceilings of several apartments before running from officers early Thursday morning.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded around 1:51 a.m. on July 23 in the 400 block of Arrawanna Street. Initial reports said the suspect had thrown an ashtray at a victim and had broken into other apartments.

When officers arrived, police say the suspect ran, leading to a short chase. Officers used a TASER, but investigators say the man continued to fight before he was eventually taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Malik Jefferson. According to CSPD, Jefferson had three outstanding felony warrants at the time of his arrest.

During the investigation, officers say they discovered Jefferson had allegedly broken through the walls of adjoining apartments, crawled through the attic, and fallen through the ceilings of several units, including the victim's apartment.

Police say four apartment units sustained extensive damage to their walls and ceilings.

Jefferson was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after officers say he appeared to have suffered multiple injuries from breaking through walls and falling through ceilings.

According to CSPD, investigators believe narcotics use was a factor in the incident.

Jefferson is facing charges including second-degree assault, burglary, and several additional offenses, according to CSPD.
