Domestic violence suspect crashes into Park County deputy on Highway 24

fatal crash

PARK COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol says a suspect connected to a domestic violence call crashed into a responding deputy on Highway 24 in Park County.

Now, CSP is trying to figure out if the suspect deliberately caused the crash.

It started around 4:30 p.m. Thursday when Park County dispatchers got a call about the domestic violence incident on Hwy 24 near Antero Reservoir. A Park County deputy and a CSP trooper began driving toward the area.

CSP says a 46-year-old man fled the scene in a Chevy Tahoe and was going east on Hwy 24. The Tahoe then swerved into oncoming traffic when the Park County Sheriff's Office vehicle was driving westbound.

The 46-year-old man was ejected from the Tahoe and sustained serious injuries. The deputy sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Both of them were taken to a hospital in Lakewood.

Investigators believe alcohol and drugs are involved, but the Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating if the crash was intentional.

The names of the suspect and the deputy haven't been released at this time.
