911 caller and wife of man shot by Pueblo police speaks to KRDO13

UPDATE: On July 11, the Pueblo County Coroner's Office identified the suspect shot in this case as John Michael Jesse, age 54.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A woman from West Pueblo said she is the one who called 911 in the domestic disturbance response that ended in her husband's death.

Christine Jesse said she called because her husband "snapped" and threatened to kill her and their son with a gun.

"My husband wanted to kill me, and I was just scared for my life," Jesse said.

She said she wasn't at the house when she called 911. The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) confirmed the woman who called was at a different location from the suspect.

PPD confirmed one of its officers shot and killed a man near Glenroyal Drive and Lehigh Avenue while responding to a domestic disturbance call involving a weapon.

According to the department, the call that came in around 11:45 a.m. PPD said the caller said her husband was threatening to kill her with a weapon.

PPD said when they arrived at the home, officers saw the suspect with a weapon and ordered him to drop it. PPD said the suspect then pointed the gun at officers. An officer responded by shooting one shot, killing the suspect.

"Oh, it's been a nightmare since it all happened today," Jesse said. "I never thought something like this would happen. We were a very happy family, and I think he just lost it, and he wanted me, my son and him all three to die."

PPD said it's been a tumultuous year for the department and the community.

"This is the, oh goodness, the third officer-involved shooting that our community has faced in 2025," said PPD community engagement manager Bianca Hicks. "We had two within a six-week period earlier in the year, in which four officers were injured. So, anytime we have a critical incident like this, it's difficult on not only the officers, but the families of those involved."

Jesse said she first started noticing changes in her husband about a month ago. She said they were a happy family before that point.
