First-of-its-kind women’s behavioral clinic set to open in Aurora
AURORA, Colo. (KRDO) -- A new women's behavioral clinic, run by all women, is set to open Thursday in Aurora. It's the only one of its kind in Colorado, and one of the only ones in the nation.
KRDO's Dani Fried got an exclusive peak inside the clinic on the Medical Center of Aurora campus.
"This unit is unique to women's issues and serving women in terms of what their needs may be in regards to emotional regulation," said behavioral health services Chief of Operations Cindy Meyer.
The unit will focus on everything from postpartum depression to trauma, anxiety, PTSD and dementia.
This project has been in the works for two years now. The HealthOne Behavioral Health and Wellness Center for Women is the first of its kind in the country.
"When you feel like you're having a crisis or things just aren't coming together, and you may have feelings of hopelessness or despair, it's a place where you can come and have an opportunity to pull things together and get some balance in your life," explains Meyer.
This center also plans to help the all-women staff working these halls too.
"Having a women's facility where the staff is also female and all your peers are also female helps build that community," said psychiatry resident Jessica Tse. "Women really love to be able to care for others and share. And yes they're working on themselves, but having that environment fosters that hope, that you are not going through this alone."
The new center will be open to the public Thursday, Feb. 20, and is located on the Medical Center of Aurora's North Campus.
