Victim of Sunday shooting on Hwy 50 in Pueblo identified

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO ) - On Sunday, Jan. 7, the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) responded to a shooting in the 700 block of West Highway 50.

When officers arrived they found evidence of shots being fired and were told a vehicle had driven away from the scene. A short time later, someone called 911 and said they were fired at in the same area, the PPD said. The caller reported two people in the vehicle had been shot. Officers responded and located an adult male and an adult female who both appeared to have been shot.
Both individuals were transported to a local hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries.
According to the PPD, the woman has been identified as 26-year-old Aaliyah Chacon. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Later in the day, a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was located in Pueblo and a pursuit began after officers attempted a traffic stop. The PPD said the chase continued down Highway 50 in Canon City, where the suspect vehicle crashed and the two occupants fled on foot.
According to the PPD, after a short pursuit, one of the suspects, 21-year-old Davonte Evans was found dead. A second suspect, 19-year-old Jordan Zeigler was located and booked into the Fremont County Jail on charges of theft and possession of a concealed weapon.
The PPD said the homicide investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown at this time if Evans and Zeigler are suspects.
