King Soopers on South Academy Boulevard to reopen Nov. 1
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- It’s a big reopening today (Nov. 1) for a King Soopers serving southeast Colorado Springs.
The store, located on South Academy Boulevard and Hancock Expressway, was shut down in June, approximately four months after it was forced to close following traces of asbestos that were found during testing.
After months of working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and taking all of the necessary steps and precautions to address the health hazards, the store is now declared safe for shoppers.

Today’s opening day festivities will include free samples, a gift card raffle, and more. The store will also present a $10,000 check to Care and Share, as well as a $2,500 gift card donation to Pikes Peak United Way, Solid Rock, and Food to Power.
It comes in recognition of their efforts to support the community during the store’s closure.
This King Soopers is one of the few grocery stores in the southeast Colorado Springs area, so to make things easier for residents living there, the store offered them free delivery while also donating $5,000 to Care and Share Food Bank.

Along with today’s reopening, the company also announced that they are hiring to fill several positions to ensure the store is fully staffed.
