CooperVision Steps Up Contact Lens Recall Effort

CooperVision is making more of an effort to publicize its recall of more than half a million contact lenses after criticism from federal health regulators.

This is the second announcement in two months about the recall of 600,000 Avaira Toric contact lenses. Some users have complained of pain, red eye, and blurred vision while using these lenses.

The company first announced the recall Aug. 19.

However, the Food and Drug Administrations says a larger effort is needed to alert consumers of the product. The lenses contain a residue caused by a manufacturing problem.

More than 8 million lenses are affected by the problems, according to the FDA, though only 600,000 made it onto the U.S. market. The company is not aware of any permanent eye or vision damage linked to the products.
