Record Heat & Monsoon Moisture
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move southeast as a cold front slides over the area. Expect a gusty wind this evening to gradually subside during the night. By morning we expect a partly cloudy sky with temperatures in the 60s for most areas on the plains, but the high mountain valleys and mountain communities will cool into the 40s and 50s.
Sunday: Partly cloudy and cooler with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s over the plains, 70s and 80s for the mountains and high mountain valleys prior to showers and thunderstorms developing. The air will cool noticeably for many areas as numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the area during the afternoon with frequent lightning, gusty wind, and heavy rain possible under the stronger cells. There is a slight chance a storm or two over the plains could approach severe criteria with large hail and damaging wind gusts the most likely threats, but localized flooding could be a larger concern with any stronger storms over the mountains, particularly if they interact with local burn scars.
Extended: We expect Monday will bring another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms capable of producing localized heavy rain and possibly some severe weather to the plains. Tuesday should be a bit warmer with showers and thunderstorms becoming more spotty in nature, but another cold front looks to arrive by Wednesday increasing the coverage and intensity of thunderstorms again as well as cooling the air for the rest of the week
