Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Stormy Weekend Ahead – 7/25/2020
Overview: Increased thunderstorms should help to cool the air over the next few days and possibly bring heavy rain to some areas at times. The latter half of next week looks drier and warmer.
Today: Partly cloudy this morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. Thunderstorms today will be most numerous over the mountains and over northern parts of our coverage area, although isolated thunderstorms are possible farther southeast as well. Severe weather is unlikely with stronger thunderstorms today, but they will be capable of producing areas of heavy rain, and should stronger cells interact with our local burn scars it is possible that flash flooding cold occur. High temperatures will still reach the 80s and 90s for the plains with 70s over the mountains, but the air should cool significantly over and near the mountains this afternoon as the thunderstorms become more widespread.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms will greatly decrease in coverage this evening with most areas becoming partly to mostly cloudy, but isolated showers could pop up occasionally throughout the night. Low temperature will fall into the 50s and 60s for the plains with 40s and 50s over the mountains and mountain valleys.
Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy and cooler again with showers and thunderstorms developing again through the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible area-wide Sunday afternoon and evening, but the focus for the most numerous thunderstorms should shift a bit farther south. Like Saturday, severe weather is unlikely, but stronger storms could produce areas of heavy rain again. Most areas will be cooler with high temperatures in the 70s and 80s along the I-25 corridor and possibly a few lower 90s for the far eastern plains; most of our local mountain communities and mountain valleys will warm into the 70s prior to thunderstorms developing.
Extended: The air looks to remain fairly cool on Monday with thunderstorms likely less numerous across the most areas, particularly the plains. Scattered thunderstorms are still possible on Tuesday, but drier and hotter air should settle over the area during the latter half of the work-week.
