Monsoon moisture brings late day storms to Southern Colorado

A pipeline of moist air continues to flow from Old Mexico, and it brings the threat of afternoon storms each afternoon. Most of the storms we expect for Sunday afternoon will develop over the foothills around 2 p.m. and they'll hit the city around 4:30. Expect a hotter day Sunday with temperatures nearing 90 degrees, since we're expecting more sunshine before the late afternoon thunder.

This mid to late summer weather pattern will continue each afternoon in the week ahead with storms developing just before suppertime, and high temperatures will flirt with 90 degrees each afternoon.

But a strong dome of dry air will set up over the region on Friday afternoon, and it will steer away any moisture headed our way. This airmass will allow us to bake under more sunshine, and that means we will be headed for 95 to 100-plus temperatures over the weekend. Oftentimes, that means a higher fire danger and lower air quality, not great if you're sensitive to the heat, so enjoy these refreshing showers as they pass through the area.
