Road Conditions Check: Cold Accident Reporting
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The first snow touched down in Southern Colorado over the weekend of Oct. 27, and while most of the major roadways are in okay shape for this morning’s (Oct. 30) commute, some side streets and neighborhoods might have re-frozen as we start in the single digits.
KRDO is tracking these road conditions as more cars hit the road.
Snow is still abundant, especially in neighborhood areas, so you are advised to take it slow this morning and build in some extra time to safely make it to your destination.
This weekend’s snowstorm put Southern Colorado in a “Crash Alert Status,” issued by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
This means minor traffic accidents in the City of Colorado Springs will not garner a police response.
This includes traffic accidents with no fatalities or injuries that usually require medical attention; no suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; drivers who have their license, registration, and insurance information; and no damage to public property such as street signs or utility poles.
If all those boxes are checked, drivers should just exchange information and follow the procedure for completing a counter-cold report.
Drivers can pick up either a traffic accident report form from any police department substation or go online at coloradosprings.gov.
As a final reminder, always travel at a safe rate of speed and check road and travel conditions before heading out.
