Gov. signs bill to rename Oklahoma highway after former President Donald Trump
OKLAHOMA CITY (KRDO) -- An Oklahoma highway will soon be named for former President Donald Trump.
According to Oklahoma City ABC affiliate KOCO, Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a new bill into law that renames a stretch of a Panhandle-area city for the former president last Friday.
However, the bill also had to amend existing law in order to let the state rename the road after Trump. Previously, the state required that people must be deceased for three years before getting a highway named after them. SB 624 removes that requirement.
So where is the future President Donald J. Trump Highway? It's technically Highway 287, and it starts in Boise City, which is a small Panhandle town with fewer than 2,000 people. The designation takes effect all the way to the Texas border, about 24 miles away.
The bill goes into effect on Nov. 1.
