DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Connector, also known as "CoCo," wins as the name for Colorado’s Future Front Range Passenger Rail Train after more than 25,000 Coloradans participated in the statewide contest.

Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPR) says its vision is to connect communities across the Front Range from Pueblo to Fort Collins, with the goal of reducing congestion on I-25 and providing a safer, more affordable transportation option.

Below are the four names that were in the running and the votes each received according to Governor Polis:

  • Colorado Connector (“CoCo”): 36.8% 9,502 votes
  • Front Range Express Destinations (“FRED”): 34.3% 8,865 votes
  • Colorado Ranger: 21.0% 5,426 votes
  • RangeLink: 7.9% 2,029 votes

“The Colorado Connector reflects exactly what this train is about: bringing communities together and creating a faster, cleaner and more convenient way to travel across our state,” said Governor Jared Polis. “Nearly 26,000 Coloradans stepped up to help name this train, and that level of participation shows just how excited people are about finally delivering modern passenger rail along the Front Range.”

FRPR says the plan is for the train to be up and running by 2029.
