Pueblo D60 principal joins governor to announce new initiative to boost math performance
DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Tuesday, a principal at a Pueblo District 60 elementary school joined Governor Jared Polis and other lawmakers to announce a new statewide initiative to boost math performance in Colorado students.
According to the governor's office, the bipartisan supported legislation provides support for math instruction and improvement for students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. This is meant to get every Colorado student "on track for math proficiency."
The initiative will support after-school programming, doubles the footprint of ninth-grade math interventions, embeds evidence-based math best practices into educator preparation programs, and adds a focus on early numeracy into preschool quality standards.
The 12 schools to receive the Governor's Math Bright Spot Award include:
- Thornton Elementary School, Thornton
- Roosevelt Charter Academy, Colorado Springs
- Chipeta Elementary School, Colorado Springs
- Fowler Junior High School, Fowler
- Hi-Plains High School, Siebert
- Chatfield Elementary School, Grand Junction
- Moffat Senior High School, Moffat
- La Jara Elementary School, La Jara
- Minnequa Elementary School, Pueblo
