More than 230 units to be demolished to provide space for housing soldiers in Fort Carson

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday, more than 75 units are being demolished to make way for houses at Cherokee West Village Housing Area.

By October 2022, phase one of the demolition is expected to be complete. Another 161 units will be removed from the property which will be completed by August 2023.

After the first stage of the project, 239 old units will be removed in order to make way for three to four-bedroom houses for soldiers and family members that are assigned in Fort Carson.

In the last 60 years, about 57,000 soldiers and family members were housed between 1958-1962.
