New Colorado Springs Chief of Police discusses transparency, recruiting, more
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Tuesday, KRDO NewsChannel 13's Heather Skold sits down with Colorado Springs Chief of Police Adrian Vasquez to discuss his plans with the department moving as he steps into his new role.
The former Deputy Chief was selected for this position following a nomination by Mayor John Suthers in April. He had already been working as the interim chief after former Chief Vince Niski announced his retirement.
Vasquez joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1995 and has since served in the Sand Creek Division, the Metro, Vice, Narcotics, and Intelligence (Metro VIN) Division, and on the DEA Task Force.
The new chief has previously talked about changes he wants to implement in the department, including transparency, tackling a rise in crime, and increasing positions in the department.
KRDO previously reported roughly 94% of the positions in the department are currently filled. However, over the next ten years, Suthers said he wants to add two more sub-stations, adding to the four currently in Colorado Springs.
