Gov. Polis gives update on COVID-19 response in Colorado, Oct. 28

COLORADO (KRDO) -- Colorado Gov. Jared Polis gave an update on the state's ongoing response to COVID-19 on Thursday. He was joined by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Eric France, along with several other state health officials.

During the address, Polis outlined possible ways to mitigate the rise in COVID in Colorado. That includes bringing in FEMA medical teams to increase staffing at hospitals, suspending all cosmetic and elective surgeries, the increased use of monoclonal antibody therapy, and reactivating crisis standards of care. That would regulate how resources, like ventilators and ICU beds, are used.

An executive order on patient transfers is also possible. According to Polis, that would allow patients to be treated anywhere, regardless of specific health network limitations.

Polis also talked about rolling out the vaccine for kids ages 5-11 in Colorado. He hopes to have half of all children in that age group vaccinated by the end of January.

According to Polis, the state has already placed orders for the pediatric Pfizer shot. If the CDC gives the final approval next week as expected, kids could begin receiving the shot around November 5.
