Anonymous crime tips up 17 percent in Pikes Peak area
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers have seen a 17 percent increase in anonymous tips to report a crime in the first six months of 2021. Don Addy, Chairman of PPACS says this is partly due to the increasing crime rate across the country.
“We’re receiving more tips than in the past on a variety of crimes, including wanted felons. We think this is a reflection of the increase in criminal activity taking place across the United States. And more of our tips are resulting in arrests, too." Addy said.
He believes crime tips are also up because of the brand awareness and promotion of the organization. In May of this year, they collaborated with The Humane Society of Pikes Peak Region and noticed an increase in animal cruelty tips.
"We had at least two animal cruelty tips a week in June," added Addy.
Anyone with information about a crime or a wanted person is encouraged to contact Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867) and share that information anonymously. Tips are also received at www.crimestop.net
According to the organization, anonymous tips are especially valuable as oftentimes, citizens have information that law enforcement does not. Arrests resulting from a tip may result in a cash reward for the caller.
