Widefield daycare provider arrested for child abuse after infant’s death in February

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a local daycare worker is facing over a dozen charges for child abuse after an infant died earlier this year.

The sheriff's office issued a news release Monday saying 53-year-old Dana McNair was arrested at about 11 a.m. for one count of felony child abuse resulting in death and 15 counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies got a call about an unresponsive child at a home near 500 Widefield Drive on Feb. 5. The child was found and taken to a hospital where they later died. The victim hasn't been identified.

The sheriff's office began investigating and started looking into "the overall conditions at the daycare." Few other details about the investigation were released.

McNair was taken into custody at about 11 a.m. Monday.
