Coloradans can apply for $50 off monthly internet bill starting today

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) —  An emergency federal program aimed at keeping people connected to internet access during the pandemic is offering broadband discounts to eligible Americans beginning Wednesday.

According to program requirements, your household is eligible if you receive food stamps, have a child in the free or reduced-price school lunch program, use Medicaid, or lost income during the pandemic and made under a certain income threshold.

If your household is eligible for the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, you can receive up to $50 per month off your internet bill and up to $75 off per month if your home is on qualifying Tribal lands. Another offer will allow some people to claim a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.

The $3.2 billion program is part of the much larger $900 billion pandemic relief package. People are encouraged to go to https://getemergencybroadband.org to find out if they qualify.

The program will end whenever funds run out or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the COVID-19 health emergency, whichever comes first.
