Man arrested after shots fired at Fountain police officers
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police say the suspect accused of firing multiple shots at three Fountain police officers has been arrested.
We reported the shooting Wednesday night, which happened around 9 p.m. near 4465 Venetucci Boulevard in Colorado Springs. Fountain police say officers were nearby and heard a series of gunshots, then they noticed a black truck driving slowly toward S. Academy Boulevard. When the truck passed by the parking lot, the officers were shot at. None of the officers were hurt.
The truck was later found and stopped by Fort Carson military police before it could get on base, according to the Fountain Police Department.
Using surveillance video from the scene, investigators were able to identify the people in the truck as being involved in the shooting.
FPD says 21-year-old Michael Hughes was arrested for three counts of felony first-degree assault on a peace officer. Charges are pending against the other people in the truck.
Fort Carson confirmed Hughes is a corporal with the First Stryker Brigade Combat Team. His three year service history lists several awards including, the army achievement medal, army good conduct medal and the national defense service medal.
