DURANGO, Colo. - The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has announced plans to reopen with limited service trips by the end of the month after shutting down in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Durango Herald reported that Democratic Gov. Jared Polis eased regulations in the past few weeks, allowing scenic trains to resume operations at 50% capacity. The company originally said it would only be profitable at 75% capacity, but said it reworked its operations to make 50% financially feasible.

It is one of the region’s main economic drivers, accounting for about $250 million with more than 200 peak season employees and 100 year-round employees.
