COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department is still investigating a crash involving a Jeep Wrangler and a woman at a protest downtown earlier this week, and they want to hear from witnesses who caught video of the incident.

The crash happened Wednesday when a large group of protesters were laying in the intersection at N. Cascade and E. Pikes Peak avenues. The Jeep went around a group and ended up striking a woman, later identified as Nichole Black.

Police initially said the woman had an injured shoulder, but now they say she suffered serious bodily injury. Black is now slowly recovering from road rash and several fractured vertebrae.

The driver was detained, but it's not clear if he was arrested. Police didn't identify him or say if he was charged.

Multiple people at the protest caught parts of the crash on video, and investigators with CSPD's Major Crash Team are asking for those with video to contact them at 719-444-7000 or 634-STOP.
